Raids

2025-11-10

There was an ICE raid on Canal St where all the guys would sell fake bags, watches, and glasses. I didn't know it happened until I was walking down it a few days ago and noticed they were all gone. Then checked online and saw the articles about it.

I spoke to one of them before. They said they were from Senegal. From one of the new articles it seems like many of them where from Senegal. There are still bag sellers down there, but it's the older ones. No more African guys.

I remember there was a raid on Roosevelt Ave a year or two ago. It happened a few months after I moved out of Jackson Heights. It was quiet for a few months, but it came back.

Oranges

2025-11-01

A few times a week I give some oranges to one of the old asian people who stand around the entrance of Grand St park across the B/D subway entrance. I do this on my way back from work. Usually just give them a quick "ni hao meimei/gege", and then ask them if they want them. They always say yes.

Atonement for all the sins I've commited.

Today, one of my best friends (Chi) came up to me saying hello. But it's Saturday, so I didn't have any oranges. I couldn't leave her empty handed, so I went to the watermelon lady stall, buy a few oranges, and bring them back.

In return, Chi gave me one of those cookie tins. Royal Dansk. Nice lady.

Grand St Market

2025-10-19

If you walk by the Grand St park across the B/D subway entrance, you'll notice a ton of old asian people by the entrance to the handball and basketball courts just hanging out. Every now and then, mostly at night but even sometimes during the day, someone will pull up on a bike and the old people go crazy. The swarm this bike person. The bike person will start taking out products from a bag and they start going back and forth.

I'm assuming this is a market of stolen goods. The bike guy steals stuff from a store, sells it to the old people, and then he buys stuff with the money. Cycle repeats.

A few years ago I saw a lady selling puppies at midnight at this spot.

Vintage Clothing

2025-10-04

Saw a beat up van pulled up to one the vintage clothing stores around the block from me. A guy opened the back doors and inside there was a pile of dirty clothes sitting on the floor, which he scooped up and brought inside the store.

Nice Morning Walk

2025-09-13

I was walking through the Hester St park on Saturday morning. I noticed a group of old women walking out of the gated playground area. They were dressed in some kind of traditional chinese clothing and were carrying instruments. It warmed my heart to see them as they walked out talking and laughing to each other. Joy has no age, I thought to myself.

As I walked away with a smile on my face, I heard one of the groups of women yell. I looked over to see what was going on. A man who was previously sitting on the bench ran in front of them blocking their path at the gate exit, pulled down the front part of his pants with one hand, and waved his johnson in the other. Fully torqued.

Monkey

Hester St. park bathrooms next to the track. Enormous monkey pile in the urinal.

Shh

2025-09-05

I was waiting for my order at KO burger on the corner of Eldridge and Division in the afternoon. Across the street, there's one of those cafeteria style places where you pick 3-5 items you want to eat.

They were closing the place down and putting a few boxes on the street. A drunk man carrying a brown bagged drink walks to the wall with a few of the recently placed boxes. He starts to undo his pants to urinate.

The restaurant workers yell "you do somewhere else!". The man turns around, now facing the street, puts his finger to his mouth making the "shh" motion, and urinates himself on the sidewalk.

Big Kahuna

2025-08-18

Everyday this guy sits on the corner of Division St and Forsyth St. He wears lot of gold jewlery. If you get lucky enough, you'll see him wearing a pigion like today.

Cool guy. I always pay my respects as I walk by.

EDIT - as of November 2025, I haven't seen him out there. Hope he's alright. Maybe it's too cold out now.

The Bubble Man

2025-08-10

Every afternoon in the summer, The Bubble Man comes to Seward Park. He plays music and brings bubble making equipment for the children.

Chickens

2023-06-04

Corona Plaza, under the 7 train stairs. I saw two young children building a nest for a baby chicken on top of a milk crate.

Grill

2023-06-03

Corner of 98th and Roosevelt. I saw a lady on the sidewalk grilling some kind of skewered rodents on a grill. Maybe guinea pigs.
